Jovanotti

BIOGRAPHY Jovanotti

Lorenzo Jovanotti Cherubini was born in Cortona on the 27th of September 1966. He became famous in the late 1980s, launched by Claudio Cecchetto. From the first hip hop first successes, gradually approaching the model of world music (always interpreted in a hip hop and funky key). The musical evolution corresponds to a change in the lyrics of his songs which, over the years, tend to increasingly touch personal themes, more typical of the Italian songwriting style. At the same time, his social and political commitment is also increasing. Active pacifist, he frequently collaborates with important associations including Emergency, Amnesty International, Anti-Vivisection League, and many others; he contributed to the demonstrations in favor of debt cancellation in the nineties and subsequently to the movements Niente scuse and Make Poverty History, participating in Live 8.

The real musical debut took place in 1987 with the single Walking and, in the same period, again thanks to Claudio Cecchetto, he became one of the leading figures of Radio Deejay. In 1988, he released a very successful single E ’qui la festa followed by his first album Jovanotti for President. The end of the 1980s saw him in the television experiences with Deejay Television and 1,2,3 Jovanotti; also from that period another famous single is released: Sei Come La Mia Moto.

In 1991, with the publication of the album Una Tribù Che Balla, a definitive different artistic period began, often described by critics as a "turning point". The themes of political and social commitment that will substantially characterize his subsequent production gradually begin to appear in his lyrics. During the 90s, his musical production is significant and some of his most famous pieces have been composed in recent years: Ragazzo Fortunato and Non M’annoio (Lorenzo 1992); Penso Positivo, Serenata Rap, Piove (Lorenzo 1994), L’ombelico Del Mondo (Lorenzo 1990-1995) and Per Te contained in the 1999 album Capo Horn dedicated to the birth of his daughter Teresa.

In 1994 he toured Europe with Pino Daniele and Eros Ramazzotti and at the same time his Soleluna record label was born. The 90s also saw the collaboration with Zucchero Fornaciari (Alleluja 1995) and Gianna Nannini (Radio Baccano 1993). In 1998,he published his first book Il grande boh! which tells the story of his travelling experience. In 1999, during the Kosovo War, Jovanotti participated in a joint project with Piero Pelù of Litfiba and Luciano Ligabue for the pacifist song Il Mio Nome E’ Mai Più, the video shot by Gabriele Salvatores and whose proceeds were entirely donated to Emergency; the single is the best-selling in Italy that year. The 2002 album, Lorenzo 2002 - Il quinto mondo, confirms, also thanks to his singles, the equidistance and balance of the two poles of Jovanotti's lyrics; the love song Ti Sposerò and the political and social commitment Salvami. Salvami, in particular, covers a wide spectrum of themes, from pacifism, to globalization and the need for justice towards the Third World, to environmentalism, and is mentioned by Tiziano Terzani in the introduction to his Lettere Contro La Guerra. The album Buon Sangue (2005) is a new confirmation of the maturity reached by the Artist, who makes use of several collaborators (Edoardo Bennato, but also Planet Funk and Danilo Tasco of Negramaro in the song Falla Girare) and jumps to the first place in the standings , driven by the success of the singles Tanto and Mi Fido Di Te. In 2006, Buon Sangue Live was released, a DVD with 40 minutes of content and background from the last tour and the concert held in Milan. In the same year he collaborated for the second time with Zucchero, becoming the author of the lyrics of the song Troppa Fedeltà, included in the album Fly.
